Patterns & Different Colors of the Bengal Cat

The Bengal cat is often recognized for his beautiful spotted coat similar to his ancestor, the Asian leopard cat. But did you know that the Bengal cat can have other coat patterns and a wide variety of colors? Let’s start with the different patterns…

The Silver Bengal

Discover the silver Bengal cat in all his magnificent shades of colors: silver, silver snow, silver charcoal, silver smoke and silver blue! So, what exactly is a silver Bengal?

A silver Bengal cat is a little wonder with cold colors! Silver was introduced to the Bengal cat in the 90's and is due to a cross with the American Short-hair cat. Silver is not a color, but rather a lack of color caused by his inhibitory gene (I). The silver Bengal cat we normally see is actually a brown Bengal cat whose silver gene has come to inhibit the warm color pigmentations.

The Brown (Blk) Rosetted Bengal Cat

The brown Bengal cat is the most popular of all colors and it’s not just for any reason! Their colors give them the wild and exotic look of the leopard that you would Awe over at the zoo. You can quickly fall in love with this beautiful brown Bengal cat. He was the foundation of the breed and the first to be recognized by the International Cat Association (TICA) in 1983.  There are a variety of colors in the brown Bengal cat ranging from warm brown in shades of blond to cold brown, almost gray sometimes and we can see brown Bengal cats with cream, golden, cinnamon and even caramel colored coats. No matter the color, we like a beautiful contrast and a beautiful contrast they have..

The Seal Lynx Point (SLP) Snow Bengal Cat

The Seal Lynx Point Snow bengal has the closest to white color among the three (3) snow variants.  They are recognized from birth because they are completely white, and it is often difficult to see their markings. As they get older, their coat will acquire more and more of contrast until around the age of two (2) years old. The color of the Seal Lynx Snow Bengal cat is usually a warm white between white and cream. It is the only one of all the Bengal cat colors to have blue eyes. Seal Lynx Points Snows are a beautiful, stunning animal that will take your breath away.

The Melanistic/Black Bengal Cat

The black Bengal cat is the most beautiful imitation of the stunning black panther. They have a rosetted or marbled pattern like other Bengal cats but we do not really see much because the pattern is black on black. There is, however, a slight difference in color that sometimes allows us to see what is called ‘’ghost’’ markings in the natural light of the sun or the flash from your camera.
